Week 2

Week 2 allowed me to learn about what interactive television is about. During this lab I had learnt that itv is basically a television with any normal functions. This is having the basic control functions such as on/off, channel selection, volume and pictures qualities. ITV also allows you to record programmes, and to pause/restart current programmes. It provides more complex between program content and the contents of the World Wide Web.

During this research, I had came up with some bullet points that will help me design my interactive television. In my interactive television, I want to include:

  • Flat screen, touch tv
  • Sleek design, preferably white
  • 3D
  • Include all the social networking sites - Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr as well as Skype
  • Webcam which would allow me to take pictures, and video chat
  • Unlimited downloading of music and games
  • Motion sensor so I can choose things while sitting down
  • All the channels, and also allows me to choose between Sky+, Virgin Tv or Freeview
  • Allows me to instant message easily to family and friends
  • Gives me reminders, alarm and weather updates
  • I want my programmes to look like apps, so you can slide across and access them easily
While thinking about the design and features of my interactive television, I have decided that I want to include an remote with it. The features within in interactive remote would include:

  • A sleek design which would be similar to how the interactive television look, this would also be made out of glass and be white
  • Touch remote
  • I would also like a virtual laser keyboard installed within my remote that will be projected onto any flat surface
  • I would like my interactive remote to have voice recognition, so from a distance I can turn the interactive television on/off or adjust the volume
  • This remote would also have a slot for USB access, so you can plug in your USB or mobile phone and can see everything on your interactive television
Once I had listed these down these ideas, I had went through these with my lab tutor before designing my interactive television on Photoshop.

Below is an example of my interactive television:
